My teaching philosophy is simple. With deep and active listening, I find what will bring the student's playing to the next level. Then through my own experience on the concert stage, I use productive, supportive, and efficient work to help the student get better. Too often teachers get stuck in an obsessed or critical attitude while missing the most basic advice that would make clear and immediate improvement. It is my mission to help the student find this improvement and let them utilize it in the way that they desire.

“Gabriel’s musical sensibility is extraordinary and he has the amazing ability of being able to explain and encourage a young cellist - such as myself-to listen carefully and discover how they would like to craft their sound. He introduces ideas of what you could do, but at the same time allows you to find your own voice. He leaves you with so many possibilities. He teaches me to be more thoughtful and to experiment with sounds and colors I have never thought to try before. He has truly pushed me towards becoming a more mature musician.”
-George Wolfe-McGuire, semifinalist of the Sphinx Competition and current student at the Juilliard School
"Gabriel has been one of the most influential figures in my life. I first met him at the Summer String Academy in Indiana where he was my practice coach. It's safe to say that was one of my favourite summers ever. If you have ever heard him play, you will already know that he is such an expressive and technically proficient musician. Recently I have been reaching out to him and he has been quick to get back to me with informative advice about repertoire choices, university applications, and musical ideas in general. I highly recommend taking lessons with him, as he has taught me so many valuable lessons!"
-Elliot Sloss, winner of the Canadian Music Competition and current student at the Curtis Institute of Music
